Easter inspo: How to naturally dye eggs

I absolutely love dyeing eggs around easter, its amazing what rich colours you can get out of natural ingredients! This year I added some fabric scraps into my dyes too, to see how they might differ to eggs.

Last year I used blown eggs but struggled with them floating to the top of the dye, so this year I just boiled the eggs in the dye without blowing them.

Supplies:
Eggs
Fabric (If you want to experiment with that too!)
Dye stuffs (I used blueberry, red cabbage, red onion skins, yellow onion skins, beetroot & coffee)
White Vinegar

Method:

  1. Start by prepping your ingredients, chop/grate/peel your chosen dye ingredient, add to a pan of water with 2 tablespoons of vinegar & boil for 20-30mins before adding the eggs.
  2. Add the eggs & simmer for 20-30mins.
  3. I then decant the dye & eggs into jars & let sit for 4-24 hours. (I added the fabric to the jars at this point too). I can never wait a full day to see what colour the eggs have turned but the longer you leave them the bolder they will be.

Making patterned eggs:
Before adding your eggs to the dye, pop your egg into some tights & add flowers/sequins/leaves; These will press against the eggs & leave a print when removed!
